LEARNING - "Know a lot about a little" + "Know a little about a lot"
Which one is better: “Knowing a lot about a little” or “knowing a little about alot”
Most of us are always aimed at “knowing a lot about a little”. That is doing specialization - Masters and Doctorates. This gets us a high paying job. But very less focus on “Knowing a little about a lot”.
I shall explain this with an example: If Meenakshi wishes to crack UPSC exam, just reading day and night and working hard, may or may not give her good result even though she had sufficient knowledge on her subjects. Then how can she?
The most appropriate meaning of “Learning” is the modification of our behaviour. How can we modify our behaviour? With the knowledge gained from the information retrieved through education. According to Swami Vivekananda, education was not only the collection of information, but something more meaningful, i.e., man-making, life-giving and character-building. Could we get such an education through our education system? Absolutely not.
For that, “Knowing a little about a lot” is required. Just working hard and earning enough money through the “know a lot about a little” strategy would never give us happiness and peace. Practicing "learn a little about a lot" is important to be successful and to live our life happily. In the above quoted example, if Meenakshi can practice power reading, increase her retention ability using memorization techniques, apply law of attraction, mind-tune with affirmations, know how to be consistent, build confidence along with hard work, then she will crack the exam without any doubt.
We are all given the greatest gifts - the time and the mind. Invest a little of your time in training your mind. If you utilize your time properly and train the mind well, it creates enormous wealth and happiness. Untrained brain crushes us with poverty and unhappiness. You are what you eat. You become what you LEARN. Be careful about what you learn because your mind is so powerful that you become what you put in your head. So create your personal mission.
I am on a mission to "know a little about a lot", learning through books, attending free or low budget foundation courses, workshops, watching TEDx talks, listening to spiritual leaders etc.
